Alfredo Llorens García: Sculpture 'The Maid and the Unicorn' (2024), bronze

Product information "Alfredo Llorens García: Sculpture 'The Maid and the Unicorn' (2024), bronze"

Strength lies in tranquillity - this is roughly how Alfredo Llorens García's sculpture could be summarised. The artist, who trained and taught in Valencia, combines a large, massive rhinoceros with the elegance of a female nude, whereby the female figure is also absorbed in reading a book with great serenity. Llorens García's outstanding sculptural skills were recognised from an early age. For almost two decades, he put them at the service of the internationally renowned Valencian porcelain manufacturer LLadró, while at the same time working as a freelance artist and realising works for museums and public spaces. The sculpture not only testifies to the utmost craftsmanship, but also to subtle humour: the title 'The Maid and the Unicorn' turns the rhinoceros into a 'unicorn' and alludes to an extremely famous depiction on a Flemish carpet from the year 1500 (La Dame à la licorne, Musée de Cluny, Paris).sculpture in fine bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chiselled, polished and patinated by hand.
