Product information "Ammonite (cephalopod)"
Stone witnesses to prehistoric times: At the time of the first flowering plants, when life was taking off, organisms in the vast lagoons of the Jurassic Sea were transformed into minerals, into natural works of art and stone witnesses to ancient communities. Their study provided the basis for evolutionary research. Our faithful reproductions of famous and unique fossils give you a deep insight into the life of the primeval world. This cephalopod species owes its name Ammonite or Ammon's horn - named after the ram's horn of the Egyptian god Ammon - to its extremely decorative outer shell, which is reminiscent of a snail shell. The species hybonotum of the genus Hybonoticeras (dorsal horn) with the characteristic wide spiral is the lead fossil for the Solnhofen Formation. Jurassic/Malm about 150 million years. Original: Private collection, limestone. Faithful reproduction in stone mass, patinated. Format 40 x 50.
