Product information "Auguste Rodin: Sculpture 'The Cathedral' (1908), bronze version"
The name of the Gothic cathedral, which reaches for the heavens, is derived from the Greek kathedra, meaning 'seat of God'. For the sculptor Rodin, hands epitomised the creative, divine power of creation. Without touching each other, they embrace the space in which the idea, the divine spark, is created, like a dance of hands. With his study, Rodin elevated the fragment to a complete sculpture and thus anticipated large areas of modern sculpture. Original: Bronze, 65 cm high, Musée Rodin, Paris. Reduction. Version in precious bronze. Cast by hand from the lost mould. Height 36.5 cm. Weight approx. 11 kg.
