Product information "Loriot: Sculpture 'Gentlemen at the racecourse', cast version"
Exclusively at ars mundi: Loriot's sketch as a sculpture. The comedic genius Loriot also had role models and sometimes paid homage to them in his own work: 'On the Racecourse', for example, is the cinematic realisation of a radio sketch that addresses the communicative clash between the self-proclaimed 'expert' and the ignorant 'layman'. The author was the comedian Wilhelm Bendow, who recorded his text for the first time in 1926 together with Paul Morgan and again in 1946 with Franz-Otto Krüger. This later live radio recording saved the sketch for more recent times and was re-released on record in the early 1970s, but only became known to a large audience through Loriot's animated drawings. Since its first broadcast on television, one quote from it has long since outgrown its status as a catchphrase and become a classic. Across generations, 'Wo laufen sie denn?' brings back the collective memory of Bendow's inimitable voice and Loriot's sensitive, graphic realisation of both characters. Loriot, the 'grand seigneur' of German humour, was blessed with numerous talents. A clever, mischievously smiling observer who opened our eyes to the absurdity of everyday life situations. This is also the case in the sketch he adapted 'On the Racecourse'. Each of the words written by Bendow could have been penned by Loriot. After all, Loriot was just as fond of repeatedly emphasising the consequences of failed communication between two people who were not even malicious, but merely caught up in a narrow perspective, status-obsessed or simply ignorant. His theme was misunderstanding and its consequences. The Germans could recognise themselves in all these sometimes grim, bizarre but always amiable characters without being offended. On the contrary, they loved him because he observed them so closely.sculpture 'Herren auf der Rennbahn': Edition in hand-painted art casting.
