Wunderlich has characterised the female figure with geometric clarity. The crowning crescent moon refers to the moon goddess Diana. Diana is the goddess of nature, fertility and hunting, the patron goddess of women and childbirth. As a virgin, mother and huntress, Diana represents the cycle of birth, life and death, as reflected in the phases of the moon. She corresponds in many ways to the Egyptian Isis, while the Greeks called her Artemis. Her cult was widespread throughout the ancient world.sculpture made of fine bronze, cast by hand using the lost wax technique. Elaborately patinated and polished by hand.
