The sculptural works of the artist, who is also known as a draughtsman, are preceded by numerous sketches in which he works on and varies his motif until it has taken on a 'valid' form for him. What characterises him in this process can be seen in exemplary fashion in the 'Reading Woman': In its structure and dynamics, the sculpture perfectly illustrates the 'ambiguity' of the reading process, as you can see from SIME's reader that she is excitedly engaging with her captivating reading and yet at the same time calmly resting within herself. 'There is no bliss without books', says Arno Schmidt. But with them, SIME's reader seems to be saying to the viewer, there is, even if only for a moment. Sculpture in bronze. Cast using the lost wax technique, patinated and polished by hand, limited to 99 copies + 10 E.A. copies, numbered, signed and hallmarked with foundry stamp. Certificate included.
