Nikolay Anev was particularly passionate about interpreting the motifs of classical Greek-Thracian mythology. In this work, he dedicated himself to the legendary people of the Amazons, who, according to the Homeric Iliad, fought under their queen Penthesilea in the Trojan War. Anev shows his Amazon as a figure armoured with a helmet and breastplate, oscillating between beauty and strength, grace and untouchability. Exclusively at ars mundi: sculpture in fine bronze, cast using the lost wax technique. Hand-patinated, polished and mounted on a diabase base. Limited edition of 199 pieces, numbered and signed. Nikolay Anev interprets the motifs of classical Greek-Thracian mythology with particular passion. Here it is the sirens that Homer describes in the Odyssey: No man could resist the enchanted song of these creatures - half girl, half bird - who lived on a rocky island. Anyone who heard them had to follow them and wrecked his ship on the sharp rocks. Odysseus had his companions' ears sealed with wax and tied himself to the mast to escape the seduction. Only the Thracian Orpheus was able to escape the Sirens' seduction by his own willpower. Exclusively at ars mundi: 'Siren' sculpture in fine bronze, cast using the lost wax technique. Hand-patinated, polished and mounted on a diabase base. Limited edition of 199 pieces, numbered and signed. Height incl. plinth 54 cm.
Cassandra received the gift of foresight from Apollo. But she refused him. Apollo then cursed the gift of providence. No one was to believe her predictions. And so Troy also fell. The sculptor Olaf Teichmann has created a comparatively simple monument to this historical abundance, focussing on the human and feminine aspects of the figure. She shields her eyes as if denying her gift. A woman who, despite her fate, knows who she is and what she can do. Sculpture cast in fine bronze using the lost wax technique, patinated by hand. Limited world edition of 199 copies, numbered and signed. Size 28.5 x 19 x 16 cm. Weight 2.6 kg.

Elegance in metal: In Oliver Franneck's sculpture 'Papillon', many small butterflies merge into a graceful female torso. For his works, the Munich sculptor first draws the contours freehand, cuts them out of metal with a laser and joins the individual parts together to form the sculpture. This creates an exciting dialogue between the shapes of the butterflies and the female nude. The transparency of the object allows for a fascinating interplay of light and shadow. With the fragmented depiction of the body, Franneck wants to create space for the individual fantasies of the viewer. Oscar Alvariño Belinchon, born in Madrid in 1962, is one of Spain's best-known sculptors. Alvariño's works combine traditional techniques with modern approaches. 'From the very beginning, I felt closely connected to the Mediterranean tradition, in which the bull and the horse were the two animals that were admired and honoured par excellence. I have seen them grow with their enormous vitality, their unbridled elegance, their strength, their agility and their balance. Loosely based on the medieval proverb: 'Audi, vide, tace, si tu vis vivere pace (Hear, see and be silent if you want to live in peace)'. The German contemporary artist Ottmar Hörl knows how to thematise and stage this everyday situation in his usual humorous way. 1,200 dwarves in the colours black - red - yellow and the three attitudes 'see nothing - hear nothing - say nothing' were specially designed for the art fair art Karlsruhe 2006. Prof Hörl spoke of a 'gentle provocation', especially in the city of law, and his dwarf parade, built on a huge wooden construction in a rectangle, will certainly have made people smile. The 'relatively political idea' (Hörl), which can be interpreted by every viewer as they see fit, is evidence of an art that seeks confrontation and does not want to hide away in the protected ambience of a museum. 'I am an artist who deals with serial structures, with sequencing systems, only when a certain number is reached does it start to become interesting as a picture,' says Ottmar Hörl about his art. And so the artist has already populated the main market square in Nuremberg with 7,000 rabbits (2003), the market square in Wittenberg with 800 Luther figures (2010), the imperial court of the Residenz in Munich with 2,000 white and blue lions (2015) or carried 10,000 owls to Athens for the 2004 Olympic Games. On Herzogplatz in Zweibrücken, it was roses. The background: Zweibrücken is known as the 'City of Roses', as it is home to over 60,000 roses of 2,000 different varieties in one of the largest gardens in Europe. The rose has always been more than just a flower: it has been a symbol since ancient times - in Christian iconography for paradise, later for love, for poetry, for wisdom, for love, for beauty and for transience. It is also this ambiguity that makes them so fascinating for artists. Following Ottmar Hörl's art exhibition in Zweibrücken in 2012, we have produced a numbered and signed special edition of 199 pieces each made of heavy, optionally yellow (24 carat) or rose gold-plated (18 carat) or fine silver-plated pewter alloy. Format each 7 x 9.5 x 9 cm (H/W/D). Weight approx. 1.7 kg each. One yellow gold-plated, one rose rose gold-plated and one fine silver-plated rose in the set. ars mundi exclusive edition.
Dwarves enjoy his special affection. They have brought the conceptual and action artist Ottmar Hörl cross-border attention and recognition. With his spectacular large-scale installations in public spaces, the professor and former president of the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg pursues the goal of promoting dialogue and exploring the tension between art and nature. In Seligenstadt in 1994, for example, he set up a thousand blue 'Sponti gnomes' - also known as garden gnomes with a stinky finger - individually and in group formations in the town for his installation 'Fliegender Wechsel' (Flying Change) and left them to their fate. Their gradual disappearance was desirable. For Ottmar Hörl, this was not a change of ownership, but the completion of a shift from public to private space, a change of position in the sense of a 'flying change'. Incidentally, modern times cannot boast of having created the gesture of the stinky finger. It was already known in ancient Rome. ars mundi has produced the 'Sponti Dwarf' as a numbered and signed exclusive edition of 199 pieces each. Three versions in cast metal, gold-plated (24 carat), silver-plated and bronzed. Format each 7 x 15 x 5 cm (W/H/D). Gold-plated or bronzed version: Weight approx. 1.3 kg. Silver-plated version: Weight approx. 1.1 kg This set of 3 'Sponti gnomes' consists of one each in gold-plated, silver-plated and bronzed versions.
