Loriot: Sculpture 'Gentlemen at the racecourse', cast version
Loriot: Sculpture 'Gentlemen at the racecourse', cast version
Exclusively at ars mundi: Loriot's sketch as a sculpture. The comedic genius Loriot also had role models and sometimes paid homage to them in his own work: 'On the Racecourse', for example, is the cinematic realisation of a radio sketch that addresses the communicative clash between the self-proclaimed 'expert' and the ignorant 'layman'. The author was the comedian Wilhelm Bendow, who recorded his text for the first time in 1926 together with Paul Morgan and again in 1946 with Franz-Otto Krüger. This later live radio recording saved the sketch for more recent times and was re-released on record in the early 1970s, but only became known to a large audience through Loriot's animated drawings. Since its first broadcast on television, one quote from it has long since outgrown its status as a catchphrase and become a classic. Across generations, 'Wo laufen sie denn?' brings back the collective memory of Bendow's inimitable voice and Loriot's sensitive, graphic realisation of both characters. Loriot, the 'grand seigneur' of German humour, was blessed with numerous talents. A clever, mischievously smiling observer who opened our eyes to the absurdity of everyday life situations. This is also the case in the sketch he adapted 'On the Racecourse'. Each of the words written by Bendow could have been penned by Loriot. After all, Loriot was just as fond of repeatedly emphasising the consequences of failed communication between two people who were not even malicious, but merely caught up in a narrow perspective, status-obsessed or simply ignorant. His theme was misunderstanding and its consequences. The Germans could recognise themselves in all these sometimes grim, bizarre but always amiable characters without being offended. On the contrary, they loved him because he observed them so closely.sculpture 'Herren auf der Rennbahn': Edition in hand-painted art casting. Limited edition of 1,499 copies, numbered and with Loriot's signature, a numbered certificate is enclosed. Format 16 x 25 x 10.5 cm (H/W/D). Weight 2.8 kg. ars mundi exclusive edition.

Loriot: Sculpture 'The Connoisseur', bronze version
Loriot: Sculpture 'The Connoisseur', bronze version
Loriot's 'character heads': the classicsLoriot looked people in the eye with a sure instinct. It is precisely the depiction of small, completely natural weaknesses that makes Loriot's characters so irresistibly likeable. His character heads are designed with this in mind. It is no coincidence that they are reminiscent of the 'three wise men' and yet are typical Loriot: 'The connoisseur', who should not actually speak, whispers with his hands held out. 'The dreamer' pretends not to hear anything, but secretly listens with one ear. And 'The Optimist' holds his hand in front of his eyes, but peers between his fingers. ars mundi offers you these perfectly shaped sculptures in two high-quality versions - as a precious bronze cast and as a 'Loriot-coloured' polymer cast. Both series are strictly limited and only available from ars mundi. Character head 'The Connoisseur': Sculpture cast in precious bronze and patinated: This limited edition of 499 pieces in finely patinated bronze bears Loriot's signature and is individually numbered. ars mundi exclusive edition. Moulded by hand using the lost wax process. Size 17.5 x 13 x 16 cm (W/H/D). Weight approx. 3.3 kg.

Loriot: Sculpture 'The Flower Cavalier - Anniversary Edition', bronze
Loriot: Sculpture 'The Flower Cavalier - Anniversary Edition', bronze
Exclusive ars mundi anniversary edition for the 100th birthday of Loriot. Bernhard-Viktor Christoph-Carl von Bülow was born on 12 November 1923 in Brandenburg an der Havel. We will be celebrating his 100th birthday at the end of 2023. As the humourist 'Loriot', he was already a figure of the century during his lifetime. There is a technical reason for this. Loriot was a precision worker, a precision mechanic of humour who mastered the exact stroke of a caricature, the 'timing' of a sketch or the placement of a punch line like no other. In Loriot's case, precision mechanics necessarily included sensitivity. Loriot was a keen observer, and from this eye he developed a sense for the comic that was just a breath away from the seemingly normal and accepted. He was a clever, mischievously smiling observer who opened our eyes to the absurdity of everyday life situations. His themes: A conversation that derails. An absurd situation in which everyone involved is struggling to maintain form. The desperate attempt to do everything right and therefore appear a little comical or even fail. But he would never have doubted the value of formal politeness itself, quite the opposite. His floral cavalier may be somewhat traditional and overly concerned with form and convention. He is an amiable character. Loriot loved people by making us laugh at them. Especially the odd ones. Loriot's 100th birthday is a special occasion for us to publish this exclusive anniversary edition of his Flower Cavalier. Sculpture in fine bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chiselled, polished and patinated by hand. Limited edition of 980 pieces, numbered, signed and hallmarked with the foundry and ars mundi stamp. With numbered certificate of authenticity and limitation certificate. Format approx. 27 x 15 x 14 cm (h/w/d). Weight approx. 3 kg. Exclusive ars mundi anniversary edition for the 100th birthday of Loriot.

Loriot: Sculpture 'The Rosenkavalier', bronze
'Der Rosenkavalier' is a cultural treat of a special kind: as an opera it is already a humorous classic, as a drawing from Loriot's hands it is a classic of humour. The 'Rosenkavalier' nonchalantly delivers its message of love in an absolutely irresistible way. Loriot's protagonist, immortalised in bronze, is an everlasting declaration of love. Incidentally, the true role of the man is defined in typical Loriot-style amiability: as the well-behaved 'best friend' of the house... Size 18 x 18 x 17 cm. Weight approx. 2 kg. ars mundi exclusive edition.
