Kurt Arentz: Sculpture 'Environmental Eagle', reduction in bronze
Kurt Arentz: Sculpture 'Environmental Eagle', reduction in bronze
Royal - the environmental eagle by Kurt Arentz - exclusively at ars mundi. Kurt Arentz's fascination with the animal world as a motif in his art was closely linked to his great interest in ecological issues. And so Arentz was delighted when his 'Environmental Eagle' was selected by the New York committee 'Artists for Ecology' as an award for ecologically effective public figures. The eagle is a clever choice of motif, as he is a proverbially keen observer of his environment and at the same time existentially dependent on it. The 1993 winner was Prince Charles (now Charles III, King of England). The committee had less the representative of the European aristocracy in mind than the organic farmer and prominent eco-activist Charles, who had long since been honoured by his son Elizabeth II. There is only one other copy of the one that King Charles received, which is owned by the Arentz family. Sculpture in fine bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chiselled, polished and patinated by hand. Taken directly from the original and reduced in size (reduction). Limited edition of 199 pieces, numbered, signed and hallmarked with the foundry and ars mundi stamp. With numbered certificate of authenticity and limitation certificate. Format 21.5 x 31 x 16 cm (h/w/d). Weight approx. 3.4 kg. ars mundi exclusive edition.

Kurt Arentz: Sculpture 'Foal', bronze
Kurt Arentz: Sculpture 'Foal', bronze
The German sculptor Kurt Arentz (1934-2014) was able to bring his very own side to the classic subject of animal sculpture. Although Arentz always emphasised the typical features of the animals, he never strived for naturalistic perfection. He left the surfaces uneven and visibly structured, giving each of his figures a very individual character - as in this study of a foal. Kurt Arentz made a name for himself worldwide with his bronze sculptures and busts. He was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2001, has won numerous prizes and many of his works can be seen in public spaces in Europe and America. Sculpture in fine bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chiselled, polished and patinated by hand. Limited edition of 499 pieces, numbered and signed. Format approx. 21.5 x 19.5 x 6.5 cm (h/w/d). Weight 3.4 kg. ars mundi exclusive edition.

Leo Wirth: Sculpture 'Freedom' (2021), bronze on marble plinth
Leo Wirth: Sculpture 'Freedom' (2021), bronze on marble plinth
Freedom is feminine. This refers not only to its grammatical gender, but also to its traditional imagery. Like so many things, this begins in Roman mythology. Libertas, who represents freedom, is depicted here as a richly adorned female figure, and one world-famous 'daughter' of this Libertas is the Statue of Liberty in New York. In art history, there is a no less iconic version: Delacroix's barricade painting 'Liberty Leading the People' from 1830 shows her in the form of a half-exposed fighter leading the people to political emancipation - vulnerable, but charging forward indomitable. For Delacroix, freedom is not a state, but a goal to be achieved and defended. Wirth's 'Freedom' is in this tradition. His version, executed as a nude, also shows freedom in dynamic motion; here, too, it storms ahead. The pose, reminiscent of a finish line, is no coincidence: Wirth shows the goal, knowing full well that the revolutionary triad is still an unfinished project: freedom, equality and - let's call it that at this point - sisterhood. Sculpture in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chiselled, polished and patinated by hand. Limited edition of 99 pieces, numbered, signed and hallmarked with the foundry stamp. With numbered certificate of authenticity and limited edition. Format including marble base 49 x 27 x 19 cm (h/w/d). Plinth size 18.5 x 8 x 5 cm (h/w/d). Weight approx. 6 kg. ars mundi exclusive edition.

Leo Wirth: Sculpture 'Modern Life' (2021), bronze
Leo Wirth: Sculpture 'Modern Life' (2021), bronze
'It's the details that count' is the motto of sculptor Leo Wirth, and it is clear from each of his works how seriously he takes this. This also applies to his portrayal of everyday people, in whom he is particularly interested; people that any of us could meet on the street. 'Modern Life' demonstrates this par excellence: the young couple appear everyday and emphatically contemporary in every respect, and their work is detailed far beyond clothing, accessories, fabric structure and drapery. Because when Wirth talks about the details that matter, he is not just referring to the craftsmanship, but above all to the realisation of the smallest, precisely observed gestures, which he picks up on and makes visible in the artwork: only the casual gait of the young man and his arm casually draped over his companion's shoulder and her self-confident gaze into the world make 'Modern Life' really come alive. They are clearly a couple 'at eye level' who feel they belong together - whether in friendship or love - and who walk through life with great affection for each other. Sculpture in bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, chiselled, polished and patinated by hand. On a concrete base. Limited edition of 99 pieces, numbered, signed and hallmarked with the foundry stamp. With numbered certificate of authenticity and limitation certificate. Format incl. base approx. 24 x 14.5 x 13.5 cm (h/w/d). Weight approx. 3.1 kg. ars mundi exclusive edition.

Leo Wirth: Sculpture 'Reading' (2019), bronze
A moment of peace and relaxation: Leo Wirth's 'Reading'. The sculptor Leo Wirth finds his inspiration in people's everyday lives, but always adds his own interpretations to his sculptures. In his design, he makes recognisable reference to the natural proportions of people and attaches great importance to an illustrative elaboration of the contours. Wirth's sculpture 'Reading' is also orientated towards the real beauty of the female body. It shows a young woman concentrating on reading a book and thus symbolises peace and relaxation. Sculpture in fine bronze. Cast by hand using the lost wax technique and patinated. Limited edition of 99 copies, numbered and signed. Leonardo da Vinci: 'Schema delle Proporzioni', standing relief 'Man'
Leonardo da Vinci: 'Schema delle Proporzioni', standing relief 'Man'
It was a time of new beginnings: after the religiously influenced Middle Ages, geniuses such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti broke new ground and opened the door to a new age. The return to classical Greek antiquity was only a seeming contradiction, for like their Hellenistic ancestors, the artists and scientists of the Renaissance rediscovered man, nature and their interrelationships, strived for perfection and found new forms of expression in art. Leonardo da Vinci's famous pen and ink drawing from one of his legendary notebooks has become a worldwide symbol of progress, science and medicine. The standing relief available from ars mundi is an eye-catcher for any desk. Polymer art casting, cast by hand, with fine bronze patina, with signed text on the back, size 16 x 17 x 3.5 cm.
