1,200 dwarves in the colours black - red - yellow and the three attitudes 'see nothing - hear nothing - say nothing' were specially designed for the art fair art Karlsruhe 2006. Prof Hörl spoke of a 'gentle provocation', especially in the city of law, and his dwarf parade, built on a huge wooden construction in a rectangle, will certainly have made people smile. The 'relatively political idea' (Hörl), which can be interpreted by every viewer as they see fit, is evidence of an art that seeks confrontation and does not want to hide away in the protected ambience of a museum. 'I am an artist who deals with serial structures, with sequencing systems, only when a certain number is reached does it start to become interesting as a picture,' says Ottmar Hörl about his art. And so the artist has already populated the main market square in Nuremberg with 7,000 rabbits (2003), the market square in Wittenberg with 800 Luther figures (2010), the imperial court of the Residenz in Munich with 2,000 white and blue lions (2015) or carried 10,000 owls to Athens for the 2004 Olympic Games. On Herzogplatz in Zweibrücken, it was roses. The background: Zweibrücken is known as the 'City of Roses', as it is home to over 60,000 roses of 2,000 different varieties in one of the largest gardens in Europe. The rose has always been more than just a flower: it has been a symbol since ancient times - in Christian iconography for paradise, later for love, for poetry, for wisdom, for love, for beauty and for transience. It is also this ambiguity that makes them so fascinating for artists. Following Ottmar Hörl's art exhibition in Zweibrücken in 2012, we have produced a numbered and signed special edition of 199 pieces each made of heavy, optionally yellow (24 carat) or rose gold-plated (18 carat) or fine silver-plated pewter alloy. Format each 7 x 9.5 x 9 cm (H/W/D). Weight approx. 1.7 kg each. One yellow gold-plated, one rose rose gold-plated and one fine silver-plated rose in the set. ars mundi exclusive edition.
Dwarves enjoy his special affection. They have brought the conceptual and action artist Ottmar Hörl cross-border attention and recognition. With his spectacular large-scale installations in public spaces, the professor and former president of the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg pursues the goal of promoting dialogue and exploring the tension between art and nature. In Seligenstadt in 1994, for example, he set up a thousand blue 'Sponti gnomes' - also known as garden gnomes with a stinky finger - individually and in group formations in the town for his installation 'Fliegender Wechsel' (Flying Change) and left them to their fate. Their gradual disappearance was desirable. For Ottmar Hörl, this was not a change of ownership, but the completion of a shift from public to private space, a change of position in the sense of a 'flying change'. Incidentally, modern times cannot boast of having created the gesture of the stinky finger. It was already known in ancient Rome. ars mundi has produced the 'Sponti Dwarf' as a numbered and signed exclusive edition of 199 pieces each. Three versions in cast metal, gold-plated (24 carat), silver-plated and bronzed. Format each 7 x 15 x 5 cm (W/H/D). Gold-plated or bronzed version: Weight approx. 1.3 kg. Silver-plated version: Weight approx. 1.1 kg This set of 3 'Sponti gnomes' consists of one each in gold-plated, silver-plated and bronzed versions.

Ottmar Hörl's sculptural work deals with the theme of standardisation, the standardisation of everyday objects. But he does it in an extremely humorous way, and his 'exhibitions' resemble spectacles. His best-known action was dedicated to the artist Dürer and his world-famous watercolour of hares. In 2003, no fewer than 7,000 rabbits filled the main market square in Nuremberg for the 'Great Hare Play'. Following his art actions, Hörl's plastic multiples are already sought-after collector's items.
